What is this Motley Mystic thing?

The Motley Mystic is a spot for people who realize that the truth speaks with many voices. There is no one religion, philosophy, institution or dogma that captures the whole Truth and nothing but the Truth. No one needs to swear allegiance to one line of thought or belief to discern Truth, because Love is the only thing that’s real. That’s what we explore at the Motley Mystic - all the tools and strategies we need to remove our barriers to Love and live fully as our true, Divine Self.

About me:

I am the founder and spiritual director of Jubilee! Circle in Columbia, SC. We are an inclusive, progressive, interfaith community that teaches the timeless common wisdom of Love and Unity found in mainstream religions, metaphysical philosophies, mysticism and the teachings of inspired secular and religious leaders. We seek to create a space for everyone to transform spiritually, to find life's deeper meaning, to Love wastefully, to engage the world peacefully, and to do justice - all in an effort to discover how to live into their true, Divine Self.

I am also the founder and editor emeritus of Whosoever Magazine, which began in 1996 and continues to reach out to those in the LGBTQ spiritual community. I also am the author of Bulletproof Faith: A Spiritual Survival Guide for Gay and Lesbian Christians, published in 2008 by Jossey-Bass, as well as a singer and songwriter and avid beer drinker.

My spiritual journey has led me out of Christianity into a more holistic faith, influenced by A Course in Miracles, mystic poets such as Rumi and Hafiz, Meher Baba, Michael Singer, Marianne Williamson, Pema Chodron and a bunch of other amazing spiritual thinkers and writers. I hope you’ll join me on this journey!
